Emerald Princess Cruise: Day 10

Well the good news is…the Volcano didn’t erupt today 🙂 Costa Rica didn’t disappoint.

I started all the day super duper early to get some breakfast before we had to meet for 7:15 AM in the dining room. We were group pink 12. First time ever a port listen to me lol well not really but they drove those buses all the way up to the gangway. We literally didn’t have to walk hardly at all Loved it!

They loaded us all up on buses to take us to our excursions. Ours just happened to be a volcano that was about two and a half hours away from the port. Due to traffic it took us closer to four hours to get there. We had a few people complaining on the bus because of the ride length and because the bus was cold. Personally Becky and I absolutely loved the cold temperature and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the countryside. The twist and turns and stops and goes we’re tough at some points. However, all in all the ride was great with great views. One thing I thought is interesting is in Costa Rica, all of the bridges we went over were single bridges so you had to wait your turn to cross. It’s amazing how fast everybody goes on these super narrow roads yet we did not see any incidences the whole day.

We had a super cute little tour guide that told us all kinds of interesting facts about Costa Rica. Approximately 4 hours worth of interesting facts about Costa Rica. Like did you know the largest export from Costa Rica to the rest of the world is medical supplies?? Or how about the fact that there are seven providences? We learned all about their money, history and geography.

Once we made it to the volcano our tour guide apologize profusely due to the fact that we had a lot of cloud cover at the top and it was super hard to see the volcano. I did include a picture where you could see the smoke coming off of the top mixed with the cloud cover. Not far from the base of the volcano was the really nice resort that we went to for the hot springs.

We got lockers and towels and got changed and headed off for the hot springs. We were a little behind the group and got caught in a rainstorm and decided to wait out the rain in this little lean to that we found. I’m pretty sure it was the turkey’s house that we saw along the way. The turkey kept yelling at Becky and she kept yelling back but we stood our ground. After the rain lit up just a little bit we went in search of the hot springs and we found them just about 5 ft away from our turkey habitat that we were squatting in.

The Hot springs were a series of pools coming down the side of the mountain. You actually had to go up steps to get to the highest point. The temperature started at 105° at the highest pools and dropped a few degrees for every new pool you went into moving down away from the falls. It was a super neat experience and I’m glad I got to mark it off my bucket list.

On the way back to the ship we stopped at a souvenir shop that had really nice handmade souvenirs. I took a few pictures of what I saw. We were cutting it close due to traffic getting back in time. I wasn’t super concerned because this was a princess sanctioned excursion so they would have waited if we had been late. We’re supposed to be back on the ship for 6:30 and we pulled up about 6:15. We were just in time for sunset and I got a few pictures of that.

We ate in the main dining room with our favorite waiter Gus and his sidekick Austin. I asked for fettuccine alfredo with shrimp and the dining staff went nutso and put around 24 shrimp on my Alfredo. Becky asked for some lemon for her fish and got equally around 24 wedges of lemon lol. No we did not make lemonade 🤣

We ended the night at the stargazing lecture where we got to see the Southern Cross along with lots of other stars. You have to be south close to the equator in order to see the southern cross I think. They turned off some of the lights on the uppermost deck so that we could see stars. I was able to get a picture of the Southern Cross and a few other stars around it.

Wish you were here!

Emerald Princess Cruise: Day 9

She sells sea shells down by the sea shore…. But not on a sea day 😁 see what I did there? Yup another Sea Day for us. We shifted our day back a bit. For those of you in the back… we slept in. Nothing like relaxing a bit.

We explored the ship some more and found a nice lounge to.. well lounge in. One of us (not me) broke a nail and had to see the nail lady for some glue.

We made it outside for the sunset. I got some pictures of a ship in the distance. Then we went in search of the place where they do star gazing. One of these nights we will meet up with the star lookers and partake, now that we know where it is. I got some amazing pictures up there as well.

We finished the night at the Italian restaurant. Super duper yummy! I had the lobster raviolis for an appetizer and a really good chicken and mashed potatoes meal for dinner. The restaurant was absolutely adorable. I really loved the decor. We also found another bar that we really didn’t know was there. We will have to come back to it one night. I finished up the night with an after dinner cocktail made with lemoncello.

Wish you were here!!

Emerald Princess Cruise: Day 8

Another Sea Day!! I personally love see days. Good thing because this cruise has two-thirds sea days. Look at me go and put that math degree to use. We started off the day having lunch. Yes you know what that means… we slept in and missed breakfast…again. Then we went outside and watched the water go by. We are so close to the shore that we saw a sea turtle, couple dolphins, a stingray jump out of the water and even saw a whale. However when I had my camera up all I got were a couple of birds.

After bird watching we settled down in a super cute lounge called the Explorers Lounge. I had some more of my favorite drink, the cupcake cocktail. Yes in the pictures you see three of them in different locations because yes I had three of them today and I’m proud of it! After all it was the emerald princess’s birthday today. They had a big celebration in the main lobby. So I had three birthday cocktails for the Emerald! That is my story and I’m sticking to it.

After sitting around in the lounge for a while, we went to Tea Time where we all sat around with our pinkies in the air speaking in British accents. I have to say the princess tea time is quite a bit better than other ones I have been to. The sandwiches were super yummy and very filling. So much so that we had to move our dinner to a later time.

Then we went back to our room and get all snazzied up in our sparkly clothes since it was a formal night. They definitely dress up a little more formal on this ship. I super like the fact that even the waiters are in tuxedos. Before dinner we caught the mighty Quinn show. He’s a juggling comedian and he was very funny.

After the show we went to see our favorite waiter Gus. The appetizer was a crawfish beignet however they called it something else. We’re just going to call it a beignet. And tonight was lobster night! Everything was super delicious. After dinner we rolled ourselves back to our state room to find these amazing certificates with the exact location that we saw the solar eclipse. My friend is already looking to see when the next solar eclipse over water is so we can book another cruise. It is definitely a must do bucket list item for everybody.

Wish you were here!!

Emerald Princess Cruise: Day 7

Huatulco baby. Beautiful city. We chose the Land and Sea excursion. We met in the showroom for 10:30 a.m. Best part of the excursion was getting to start a little later. They marched us off the ship in a line to a catamaran. Once on the boat we all had to put on life jackets because the Harbor Master required it.

We had a beautiful ride through several of the bays off the coast. We had a non-advertised bonus. We got to see a whale! Actually two whales it was a mama and her baby. Our guide said she was teaching the baby how to jump out of the water.

We got to see some beautiful shorelines. Some deserted beaches. The water was pretty rough close to the rocks. We got to see a few blow holes where the water spurted up. We also got to see an amazing feature in one of the rocks that looks like a face.

After the catamaran they took us all to a restroom where there was a hole in the ground. I declined that option. Next was a bus tour. For as much as I loved the water part I disliked the bus part. They only took us to an overlooking cliff, and a church. The church was a three block walk there and back that we opted to stay on the bus for that part. Most of the people when they got back into the bus were complaining about the walk.  Back on the ship we watched the pilot pull away.

All in all it was a great day. Wish you were here!!

Emerald Princess Cruise: Day 6

Water water everywhere but not a drop to drink…. But there was plenty of other yummy stuff to drink. Today was a sea day. We spent the day in the swimming pool. It. Was. Hot. But the pool was the perfect temperature. After the pool we got dressed for dinner. Our favorite waiter Gus brought us cupcakes drinks and boy were they yummy.

After dinner we went to the comedy show. Lenny was very funny. My favorite part was when he talked about the “front of the ship show” on one of the many cable channels with a princess theme. He did mention that it’s not very good at night. Lol, we personally love to watch the bridge channel.

We ended the night at the Rock Opera show. They started with my favorite song “This is the Greatest Show” and ended with “This is Me” with ASL intertwined with the choreography. The entire show lasted about 45 minutes and was very entertained with great costumes. Tomorrow is Huatulco, Mexico. I can’t wait to show you all about that city. We are doing the See and Sea tour.

Emerald Princess Cruise: Day 5

Well boy was I wrong when I thought my cruise couldn’t get any better after whale watching!! Experiencing the total solar eclipse, on the ocean along side another Princess ship, next to a couple thousand new grammas was next level!

Every 20 minutes as we were watching the sun and moon nearing totality, there was a ship navigator giving us the history and science behind the total eclipse. Super interesting information. My friend Becky had her full nerd on 🤣.  Meanwhile I was busy either getting a look of horror, a raised eyebrow (you know the one), a thumbs up, a giggle or a request to take a picture with me.  I was literally a dress up party for 1. But I’d do it all again.

After the eclipse (and a nap), we explored a new super cute lounge. Then we spiffied up, had a yummy dinner with our favorite waiter, had some drinks and listen to some music and then saw a night with Adele. Such a full day!!! Only 10 more to go!!

Wish you were here!!

Emerald Princess Cruise: Day 4

OMG best day ever. (So far) Cabo day. We went whale watching. The entire excursion was super easy. We first met in the theater then they marched us down a few levels and onto a rescue boat for a tender. Once on the dock they put us in a line had a sign a waiver and then March us in a line just a few minutes to a beautiful catamaran. The catamaran had a few levels of seats. We got to see the arch of Cabo San Lucas and then we went on a search for whales. Took us a while to find them we got to see some sea turtles and a few dolphins. All the while we got a really cool bento box and all the drinks you wanted. The margaritas were very yummy and the staff was super awesome. Finally after about an hour of searching we were able to find the whales. The captain was super patient and looked everywhere and when we finally found them, he went on a chase to follow them. The guide put a listening device in the water so that we can hear the whales communicate with each other under. It was very exciting and I highly recommend whale watching in Cabo. We ended the night with a very yummy dinner in the dining room with our favorite waiter.

Wish you were here!

Emerald Princess Cruise: Day 3

It was a sea day baby 😁… Explored met lots nice people and dressed up fancy. During the day we relaxed and had lunch in the main dining room. Then for dinner we went back to the same waiter we had last night cuz we really liked him and then we listen to some music and a really cute lounge then we went to an amazing show. Tomorrow is whale watching in Cabo I hope to get lots of great pictures. But for now here’s some fancy night pictures.

Wish you were here!

Emerald Princess Cruise: Day 2

Boarding day…little bit of confusion for me. Not used to this port. But we got on, explored a bit. I super love the buffet area. It doesn’t feel cold and sterile, it was very warm and inviting. I included a couple pictures. We got our room set up and I have to say for an interior room this is very roomy. Then we went to the dining room for dinner, had a wonderful meal and enjoyed some of the drinks that they wanted to give us. We found the casino and explored a little more of the ship. The ship is not very big but certainly beautiful. Kind of reminds me of the Disney ship except this one has a casino and very few children. Here are a few pictures of this quaint little beautiful ship.

Wish you were here!!

Princess Emerald Cruise: Day 1

I’m trying something new! I will be blogging on this site about my travel from now on. I will also blog about other things when I’m not traveling. Today was a travel day and tomorrow we get on the ship. We flew into the Long Beach airport for the very first time and was not prepared. I didn’t realize there were still airports where you got off of the plane outside and went down the ramp. Pretty much the whole airport is outside with open air everything. Of course I got to come to Long Beach when they were having a cold snap.

Tomorrow we board the ship and I hope to have lots more for you to read and see. Wish you were here!!
